Lachen, a small town in Sikkim of India, is making an incredible change. It may be the first town to ban plastic water bottles, due to increased littering by tourists. As an alternative, they will offer a more sustainable and eco-friendly option: bamboo water bottles.
Bamboo is absolutely incredible. This natural material is 100% biodegradable. Compared to trees, bamboo will grow 4-7 times faster while producing 20 times more timber.
Bamboo requires 33% less water to grow than trees and provides us with 35% more oxygen.
Living a greener lifestyle and making more environmentally-friendly choices can often seem overwhelming, but making small changes can make a big difference.
There are many things you may be doing that are already a sustainable swap, like using reusable water bottles or bringing a thermos to your favorite coffee shop to reduce the use of single-use plastics or coated cups.
Take your eco-friendly swap of a reusable water bottle to the next level by choosing one made with sustainable materials.
