The answer to everything is a good night’s sleep.
Finding the right mattress that has it all can make the commitment to maintaining a healthy nightly routine much more natural.
Introducing the bamboo mattress.
Bamboo has it all. The best of bamboo can be showcased in your next mattress that will change the game for catching Zzzs.
Stiff back and neck? Bamboo will cradle you.
Stinky or aging mattress? Bamboo will last you years in top shape.
Allergies or temperature sensitivity? Bamboo will regulate and protect you.
Before we break down the key benefits of a bamboo mattress, let’s look a little at common bamboo composition.
In my research, I always look at the materials. All bamboo mattresses I have found are made of a combination of bamboo and some other material – such as foam.
The practice of alternating materials supports the bed, literally. A layer of foam underneath a bamboo top lends support, for example.
In my research, I did not come across a bed that was only 100% bamboo at this time.
The good news is I have found some excellent choices that work as hybrid-material beds that deliver all of the benefits of bamboo while keeping the comfort and structure we all love to drift to sleep on.

Benefits of Bamboo Mattresses
Hypoallergenic
Ideally, we have our mattresses for years. Over time, they can develop mold and other allergens that are stored in the material. Mattresses are a chore to clean and the depth of cleaning is never more than surface-deep.
To limit exposure to allergens for now and tomorrow, a bamboo mattress is an incredible solution!
If you are interested in going the extra mile, see my article on the best bamboo sheets to pair with your new bed!
Whether you suffer from sneezes, stuffiness, itchiness, or otherwise a hypoallergenic mattress is a preventive and continual safeguard against exposure to extra allergens.
Viscose from bamboo has antibacterial properties that inhibit the growth of unwanted bacteria that not only may cause unpleasant smells but may contribute to allergies.
Moisture-Wicking
Bamboo is moisture-wicking. Less moisture equals fewer odors lingering on the fabric and, ultimately, on your skin.
Not only is this ideal for those of us who tend to heat up at night, this is perfect for keeping a mattress in good shape longer.
A damp mattress is an invitation to mold and mildew. This can bring on a whole host of other issues in the quality and lifeline of your bed.
The natural wicking properties of bamboo allow any moisture to evaporate upon contact.
Not only do these properties help keep your bed clean, they keep you clean by preventing moisture from interacting with the mattress you sleep on!
Body Temperature Regulation
One of the biggest benefits in my opinion about bamboo fabrics is the fact that it does an excellent job in body temperature regulation.
Body heat is notably reduced in the presence of bamboo fabrics such as viscose from bamboo.
In my research, I have come across mattresses that are up to three degrees cooler than cotton or other standard materials on average!
Compared to cotton, bamboo wins in the cool factor. You do not need to worry about a thread count. As long as you are buying bamboo, you will have a material that does not store heat the way that cotton naturally does.
The natural moisture-wicking properties lend a hand to help showcase this amazing feature as well. Together, they help you sleep cooler.
Best Bamboo Mattresses of 2021
Best Overall
So we have discussed why bamboo works well in bedding, let’s now start with my top pick for the best bamboo mattress!
Cariloha has been in the bamboo business for years. They produce top-quality bamboo goods with high ratings and standards to match.
Let’s start with what gets us to bed each night- comfort.
The Cariloha Classic Bamboo Mattress adapts to your body shape, which works to alleviate pressure from the main contour points of the body.
The keys to comfort in this bed are the four stacking layers each with a unique intention.
At the bottom sits the base foam to give structure but allow airflow to keep the bed three degrees cooler.
Above that lies side wedge support on both edges to give 20% more sleeping surface without the risk of rolling off. This is a feature I have not come across from any other brand in my research!
Sitting on top of the wedge support is the luxury memory foam that is the secret sauce for comfort and pressure alleviation.
On the very top, the charcoal bamboo sits to add more comfort and breathability.
The mattress itself comes with a plush quilted cover that zips off for ease of cleaning.
Okay, so the picture has been painted, why is it my favorite of them all?
I don’t like to take too many risks.
Cariloha offers a 100-night trial, ten-year warranty, and free shipping. As a cherry on top, your old mattress will be disposed of upon delivery!
I have also found Cariloha to be the most eco-friendly and transparent of all of the bamboo bedding producers.
Available sizes: Twin, Twin XL, Full, Queen, King, California King, and Split King.

Don't forget your bamboo mattress pad!
Best Luxury
Are you looking to go all out?
Well, I have here a mattress that is the top of the line for all of the bamboo bedding benefits I have been researching.
The Cariloha Resort Bamboo Mattress boasts all of what I love about my top pick on this list, but with an extra feature to take it to the next level of luxury.
If you like my top pick bed from this article but want to go the extra mile, this is the mattress for you.
In addition to the four layers discussed in my “Best Overall” category, the resort mattress has transition response memory foam – a hypoallergenic latex foam that helps the bed to maintain its shape.
Of course, Cariloha delivers with white-glove service with the aforementioned disposal of your old mattress. Say goodbye to the springs!
Available sizes: Twin XL, Queen, King, California King, and Split King.

Best Ventilated
At night, it is only natural for some of us to get a bit hot.
I have come to realize that more and more after sleeping next to my partner, who turns into the hottest human furnace as soon as the clock strikes midnight.
We have brought in a fan and brought in some cooling sheets, but the key to a cool nights’ sleep is in the mattress.
My best pick for a ventilated bamboo mattress is the LUCID bamboo charcoal and aloe vera hybrid mattress.
The firmness is at a Medium-Plush so we can meet halfway with our sleeping partners who are softer or harder than we are in their preferences.
My favorite part? It is ideal for side-sleepers. I have been a side sleeper since the 1990s and I am so happy there are mattresses that support that rather than telling me it's a me problem.
While this bed has open-cell memory foam for even weight distribution, I think the best feature is that it is ventilated for breathability.
The ventilated gel-infused memory foam sits right below the top inch of the bamboo charcoal-infused memory foam that is quilted right into the cover.
As for the cover, it is a TENCEL blend fabric to lend extra breathability and natural comfort.
Available sizes: Twin, Twin XL, Full, Queen, King, and California King.
And no bedroom is complete without somewhere to rest your nighttime items, so make sure to check out our top-rated bamboo nightstands.
Bedtime
Going with bamboo in bedding will rewrite the way that you sleep.
Moisture-wicking, hypoallergenic properties, and temperature regulation are to me some of the top reasons to make the switch.
If you need more convincing, consider the environmental impact you can make by going with a more eco-friendly material such as fabric from bamboo.
All four of these options are excellent for an array of needs or sleeping styles. I chose my best based on deliverables per price.
Sweet dreams!
